Metro Alarm is Certified for UL 72 Certificates
Metro Alarm is one of the few UL listed alarm service companies in the Twin Cities area that is certified to write UL 72 Certificates on fire systems.
UL 72 Certificates
The State of Minnesota has adopted NFPA (National Fire Protection Association) 72 as the standard for the installation of ALL fire alarm systems. The standards in NFPA 72 are the minimum requirements and each city in Minnesota can write their own City Ordinances that go above and beyond the basic requirements listed in NFPA 72.
One of these ordinances is the requirement of a UL 72 Certificate. The fire alarm system is still installed per NFPA 72; however, the UL 72 Certificate issued says that Metro Alarm acknowledges that the fire system will be installed, maintained and tested in accordance with UL’s requirements. UL comes out once a year and does random inspections of the fire systems, to make sure they are installed per NFPA 72.
The difference between a fire system that carries a UL 72 Certificate and one that does not is the ‘runner service’: on a UL 72 certified system, a service technician must be on the premise within two hours following a fire or supervisory alarm to ensure the fire system has been reset; on trouble signals, the service technician has a four-hour window to initiate repairs on the fire system.
Currently there are 13 cities in Minnesota that requires UL 72 Certificates. They are Brooklyn Center, Brooklyn Park, Burnsville, Chanhassen, Chaska, Coon Rapids, Eden Prairie, Golden Valley, Maple Grove, Plymouth, Shakopee, St. Cloud and St. Anthony.
Metro Alarm is one of the few companies in Minnesota that has meet all of the UL criteria and is able to write UL 72 Certificates. Our technicians are factory-trained, licensed by the State of Minnesota, NICET certified, and are continually working to improve their education.
